How the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls Luxury Vacation Makes a Difference
Botswana’s low impact tourism model and policy of preserving its wildlife and implementing sustainable tourism policies has had a direct result on keeping the natural ecosystem in balance. It is no secret that Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls are among Africa’s more expensive safari destinations but the park’s entrance fees contributes towards conservation strategies and community development.
Less than 20% of Botswana’s land has been set aside as national parks and private game concessions. However, what makes Botswana special is the number of visitors is limited in each area in order for the area to remain healthy and preserved for generations to come.
An Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls luxury vacation uses local guides who are passionate about nature, wildlife, and their homeland. Their ability to translate local dialects provides guests the privilege to gain in-depth insight into the intriguing local cultures. Their tracker and guide system is incredibly orchestrated to put guests in the best places for wildlife viewing and when things are slow they delight in showing guests the smaller side of things like botany, animal tracks and insects for a unique and informative experience.
The lodges on Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls luxury vacations are balanced by overwhelming comfort with a true wilderness feel. They do a fabulous job on making the most of local resources and are in tune with harnessing energy without causing waste. Where possible, solar panels are used for electrical requirements – these are supported by generators, and guests are advised on how to save power on arrival.
Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls luxury vacations are best when working with 12-16 days. This allows time for guest to properly explore the area, visiting between 2-4 different areas of interest and fully appreciate the uniqueness of the region while relaxing and enjoying oneself. If you’re unsure which side of Victoria Falls is most recommended, don’t be afraid to contact us and ask for our recommendations

Camp Savuti
Camp Savuti located within Chobe National Park in northern Botswana offers guests a touch of intimacy and comfort without the over indulgence and high price tags that are commonly associated with the area. The Savuti area has developed a reputation over the years as a prime area to view predators, especially lion and spotted hyena and Camp Savuti is at the heart of all this action. The area surrounding Camp Savuti boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the African continent and leaves visitors with outstanding stories and lasting memories.
The Savuti Channel (where the area takes its name), was a flowing river but in 1982 it abruptly stopped flowing. The event was so unusual and mysterious it attracted worldwide attention and was extensively covered by various wildlife documentaries. Then in 2010 the Savuti Channel began flowing once again. Guests to Camp Savuti will have the opportunity to learn the entire story on one of their many game drives.
In 2009 when the Government of Botswana decided to privatize numerous “public campsite” areas, Ren and Connie Mbulawa became the first Botswana citizens to own the camp. Today, Camp Savuti is among the many independent safari camps that offer a more economical approach with an emphasis on personal attention that Wild Safari Africa considers to be a great way to get more bang for your buck.
Camp Savuti Quick Facts:
LOCATION: In the heart of the Chobe National Park on the Savuti Marsh rests Camp Savuti.
THE FOCUS: The big cats and other predators. If you like Big Cats, Camp Savuti is the place to visit.
ACCESS: By light aircraft via Savuti airstrip, 40 minutes from Maun, 40 minutes from Kasane, 20 -40 minutes from most other lodges in northern Botswana.
CATEGORY OF SAFARI EXPERIENCE: Camp Savuti offers a traditional tented safari with intimate guest areas . A real ‘safari’ experience in a camp established on a dedicated site. These safaris are operated on a FLY-IN basis or self-drive is also possible.
ACCOMMODATION: A maximum of 10 guests in 5 Meru tents with en-suite facilities, including flush toilet and safari shower.
ACTIVITIES: Game drives
CHILDREN: Of all ages are welcome.
RATES: Fully inclusive, including park fees
SOMETHING SPECIAL: The Savuti Channel is flowing again, after 25 years.
Camp Savuti Accommodation
Camp Savuti is a small, intimate camp consisting of 5 Meru tents accommodating a MAXIMUM of 10 guests at any given time in comfort and style. The tents have all been positioned to ensure privacy and a modest level of exclusivity throughout the camp and each tent sits on a platform, with stunning views over the Savuti Channel.
The tents are large and spacious with en-suite facilities including flush toilet and the classical safari shower.
When not relaxing near your tent, guests venture to the lounge area where there is a comfortable and intimate guest area, bar and dining area overlooking the Savuti Channel.

Camp Savuti Activities
Camp Savuti is all about utilizing the guide and tracker system to seek out Big Cats and other predators. Game drives enlighten guests with the guides sharing their knowledge about the environment and diversity of nature in the Savuti area. Private vehicles can be arranged at an additional cost.

Our take on Camp Savuti is that it’s the best of the Savuti area at a really affordable price!

Gorongosa National Park Safaris
Gorongosa National Park safaris are on the rebound. Once an outstanding game viewing destination, today travelers from across the globe are beginning to return. Before the onset of Mozambique’s civil war in the 1970’s, Gorongosa National Park safaris were considered one of Africa’s finest, with large populations of antelopes and predators. However Goronogosa National Park safaris took a huge down turn as the wildlife populations were largely affected by the troubles of Mozambique’s political atrocities. It is only in recent years that a restoration project has been implemented in efforts to re-establish the park and its game viewing.
The Carr Foundation, a US not-for-profit organization, has teamed up with the Government of Mozambique to protect and restore the ecosystem of the National Park and to develop an ecotourism industry to benefit the surrounding local communities. As a result Gorongosa National Park safaris are once again becoming a popular choice for outstanding game viewing destinations.
Gorongosa National Park Safaris: Wildlife and Conservation
The rehabilitation of the park is still in its early days and game viewing on Gorongosa National Park safaris lacks diversity. With that being said, each and every year new species are being added to the park including big predators. It’s already an interesting park as it is well off the beaten safari path and is perfect for travelers looking for a great wilderness experience.
What kind of animals can you expect to see on Gorongosa National Park safaris?
The park is home to healthy populations of oribi, reedbuck, waterbuck, warthog and sable. Predator populations are recovering slowly with several prides of lion. Elephant herds are a regular encounter.
Buffalo, wildebeest, kudu and hartebeest are being reintroduced to the park but their numbers are still low. Leopards occur but like elsewhere are extremely elusive. In the parks rivers and lake, hippo and crocodile thrive on the floodplains where zebra, impala and baboons are consistently seen.
Gorongosa National Park safaris are particularly well suited for birders. Home to unique and endemic birds such as the collared palm thrush, the green coucal, narina trogon and spotted creeper.
The ecosystems at Gorongosa are diverse, with the savannahs dotted with acacia, dry forests and sandy areas, wetlands or pans that are seasonally filled by the rains, and thickets on towering termite-built mounds. Rainforests also can be found at the bottom of a series of limestone gorges. These environments all make Gorongosa National Park safaris highly unique.
Gorongosa National Park Safaris Accommodation
Explore Gorongosa is the first and only private safari outfit permitted to operate Gorongosa National Park safaris. With a maximum capacity of only 8 guests at any time this place of accommodation offers a truly intimate, private and unique southern Africa safari experience.

Explore Gorongosa specializes in walking safaris. When combined with the traditional game drive and water-based safaris, this camp takes guests to explore the grand diversity of the area and delve into the innovative restoration projects underway.
Accommodation is in semi-permanent tents with eco-friendly toilets, vanity tables and outdoor bucket showers.
During December to May, the camp is closed due to the predictable flooding of the river.
Travelers to Gorongosa can access the park by air or self-drive from Beira into the Reserve or from Maputo or Bazaruto by scheduled flight.
Gorongosa National Park safaris are ideally combined with a tropical Mozambique beach holiday.

The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa (with the added comfort of hassle free accessibility from Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport). This national park of nearly 2 million hectares, the Kruger National Park is unrivaled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Truly the flagship of the South African national parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. We operate in the central & northern regions of the Kruger National Park and this is done primarily to avoid the southern portions of the park, which can become busy at times (especially between the months of May- August). The central area is characterized by more open savannah thus increasing visibility and exponentially increasing the chance of seeing some of the numerous predators found in this area, such as lion, spotted hyena, leopard and cheetah. On these open savannah area’s we find a wide variety of herbivores such as zebra, blue wildebeest, impala, giraffe etc… All four the aforementioned animals feature high on the preferred diet of predators.
In the northern portion of the central region we find the Olifants and Letaba rivers with magnificent Riverine Forests offering great opportunities of seeing elephant and vast herds of buffalo, alongside a host of other wildlife in some of the finest scenery afforded by the Kruger Park.
The Outpost Lodge is as wild as it gets for South Africa- remote and a true sense of wilderness experience prevails.

Wild Safari Africa’s take on Marlin Lodge
Marlin Lodge has a great value for money, perfect honeymoon destination where clients really enjoy the hands-on personalized service. The staff really goes out of their way to make the visitor enjoy their stay. It is without a doubt one of the very best places to experience the true beauty of the Okavango Delta wilderness.
Moremi Island Camp Accommodation
Imagine the typical stereotype of a Hemmingway safari. Moremi Island Camp is just that. The camp is basic African safari arrangement. Visitors here are most drawn to being away from it all –with the limited comforts of home – and in the heart of nature.

The camp accommodates a total of 12 guests at any given time thus providing an intimate escape travelers come looking for.
The Moremi Island Camp is what we often refer to as an explorer camp. It has a rustic feel giving guests a real sense of the old world charm that lets adventures prevail. Moremi Island Camp has completely let go of any form of décor thus giving you the opportunity to relax amongst the full spectacle of nature. What better décor could you ask for?
Moremi Island Camp’s impact on the environment is about as low as you can get. This is all intricately designed into the overall experience as we do appreciate and understand the larger consequences of operating on a fragile ecosystem.
Moremi Island Camp Activities
Activities at Moremi Island Camp make the most of the areas many water channels. Guests have the opportunity to get out and explore by traditional mokoro or by small boat. These are often combined with game walks on the larger islands. You will be accompanied with qualified guides at all times to ensure your safety. Big game viewing is presented around every corner, including the rare sitatunga antelope.

The Outpost Lodge
The Outpost Lodge is a luxury lodge in the northernmost concession area of Kruger National Park. Situated in the vast wilderness area, this region, called the Makuleke Region, is bordered to the north by the Limpopo River and Zimbabwe and to the east by Crooks Corner and Mozambique. It presents the opportunity of feelings of remoteness similar to Botswana’s Okavango Delta or East Africa but with the convenience of never leaving South Africa.
Upon arrival guest are welcomed into the main lounge area and instantly treated to the openness and extensive views that embody The Outpost Lodge. The modern bar area tends to be a popular focal point and defines the lounge and dining areas. To add to the comforts of home, the lounge is flanked by a large bookcase with an extensive and varied selection of books. Follow this area to the swimming pool and deck with large lap pool.
The Outpost Lodge Accommodation
The Outpost Lodge is perfectly comprised of one main building and 12 stand-alone living spaces. Together, they are all set against the side of a hill overlooking the Luvuvhu River and connected by a half kilometer long walkway made of Zimbabwean teak. The contemporary design of each living space is brilliantly designed to offer the luxury of retractable remote controlled screens which may be opened to offer 180 degree views of the river valley below. Depending on the weather, they can be easily and quickly closed.

Each chalet at the Outpost Lodge includes an outdoor terrace with daybed, indoor lounge and bedroom with king size bed under mosquito netting, as well as award-winning en-suite bathrooms that offer full views of the surrounding bushveld. (The bathroom can also be screened off for privacy) Goose down duvets adds a touch of luxury to your continued comfort while staying at the Outpost Lodge.
The Outpost Lodge Cuisine
Regardless of the Outpost Lodge’s remote location the food is most excellent. The cuisine is inspired by its African surroundings – most notably the best produce grown locally. Special dietary requirements must be shared before arrival to ensure the lodge is able to meet your specific needs during your stay.

The Outpost Lodge offers a diversity of unique places to dine. Breakfast is served under cover in the dining area in the main building with views of the magnificent Luvuvhu River Valley. Lunch is served in one of two places and completely your choice; either in the dining area or as a picnic lunch. The picnic lunch is ideal for times while on game drives near the riverside or under the shade of a large Baobab tree. Guests eat dinner either in the closed courtyard under the open starry sky or on the deck next to the pool. Both are marvelous settings.
Activities at The Outpost Lodge
Games Drives
Guests will be offered a choice of a long or short game excursion in the morning and again in the late afternoon which may extend into the early evening. Game drives are conducted by qualified and experienced guides in open-air four wheel-drive vehicles. Game excursions are not restricted to public roads in Kruger National Park and mostly make use of tracks formerly reserved for the use of Park officials.
Hiking and Birding
Guided nature and birding safaris are available upon request, subject to availability and are not included in the rates. Bookings must be made prior to arrival.
Visit Thulamela
The region’s rich historical and cultural heritage can be explored by guided visits to Crooks Corner and the Thulamela archaeological site overlooking the Luvuvhu River. Artefacts dating from 1460 to 1640 have been found tying them to the last phase of the Zimbabwe culture. In the late 19th century, the historic Ivory Route passed alongside the Luvuvhu River to Crooks corner at the confluence of the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers.
Visit Makuleke Village
The Outpost celebrates its relationship with the Makuleke Community. The creation of the lodge is inextricably linked to the history of the Makuleke people, their forced removal from the region under the Apartheid laws of the old South African government and the subsequent return of title to the Makuleke people. The history of the Makuleke people is best explored by a visit to the Makuleke Village in the capable hands of a Makuleke guide. A visit to the Makuleke Village is a full day excursion.
Special Requests
The Outpost Lodge is ideal for destination weddings. Combined with the African wilderness there is a number of stunning areas within the concession from which you can choose the perfect location to begin your lifetime commitment of love.
The lodge can arrange all aspects of your wedding including legal requirements, ministers, photographers, flowers, and choirs. Whatever you need, they will help arrange it all.

Guests at the lodge have access to the diversity of wildlife specific to the Kalahari region. You can expect to see populations of eland, kudu, wildebeest, red hartebeest, oryx, and springbok. Bird life is also extremely prolific.
Predators are rarely sighted with the exception of brown hyena. They tend to be a frequent visitor to the waterhole.
Completely exclusive experience to the area is a chance to witness the sandgrouse spectacle (best seen during the dry winter months). Thousands of birds combine together as one gigantic flock and begin swooping over the waterhole for a drink. Something to truly watch for!
Activities at Grassland Bushman Lodge
While the San cross-cultural experience is the definite highlight of the lodge, there are also many other very exciting activities to be shared.
Game Drives
The Central Kalahari rewards those with patience and time with some amazing wildlife. Grasslands Bushman Lodges offers guests the opportunity to explore this world by day and by night. The reserve is well stocked and one can reasonably be expected to see most animals that are endemic to this region such as , springbok, eland, gemsbok, red hartebeest along with gnu, zebra, giraffe and if you are lucky even; lions, cheetah and leopard.
Up to 30% of all Botswana’s wildlife is nocturnal and thus it is essential to be able to offer night drives. At Grasslands Bushman Lodge, we are able to offer night drives with a guide and tracker.
Horseback Riding
By prior arrangement we can take guests out into the Central Kalahari on horseback, we do require that riders have a basic level of proficiency. The duration of the rides pretty much depend on how long guests wish to ride. One of the major advantages of this is that you at times can get really close on horseback to wildlife.
Predator Project
Grassland Safari Lodge is situated on the western side of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. On our western, northern and southern sides of our game area is surrounded by cattle ranches. Predators move from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to these cattle areas on a very regular basis because of easy prey and water. Farmers in Botswana are allowed to shoot predators at random that hunt their livestock.
We therefore have decided to work hand in hand with the Department of Wildlife and save these predators. Problem predators are captured and kept in semi-captivity at Grassland Safari Lodge in 11 ha camps and we are working on a solution to save these predators. The animals are shown to guests as an activity at no extra cost.
The purpose of having the predators is thus not only to save them from a certain death but also to educate visitors about their dilemma and what projects such as these can do to improve the gene pool of predators in Botswana and to save the rare species such as cheetah and wild dog from extinction.
The predators are fed on donkey meat which is bought from local people all over Botswana. This has the added advantage of supporting the local communities. Donkeys are hugely over-populated in Botswana and pose a severe threat to road safety.
At the moment Grassland Safaris has lions, wild dogs, leopard and cheetah.
Our intention is to re-introduce the predators back into the wild and to breed with the wild dogs and cheetah. Especially in the case of wild dogs, which are under constant threat of canine diseases such as distemper from local dogs in the villages, it is extremely important to maintain a healthy population by breeding in semi-captivity in order to re-introduce them to the wild.
Currently the project is not sponsored but in future, contributions to maintain this valuable program will be much appreciated.
San Cultural Experience
Without any doubt Grasslands Bushman Lodge offers the most comprehensive San ‘Bushman’ experience in Southern Africa. Your hosts are of the few people not borne from San that can actually speak the language; this makes for a very deep understanding and adds significant value as well as authenticity to the experience. The San (bushman) activities are grouped as follows (hunting, gathering, games and rituals). Someone once remarked “the San is the world’s oldest living culture and from the very first time we have made contact they have been trying to teach us how to deal with each other and conservation- pity so few have bothered to listen”
Guided Game Walks
At grasslands Bushman lodge we offer guided walks with professional guide and arguably the world’s best trackers our San trackers! To get to experience the real Africa you need to get the dust of Africa on your boots. Guided walks are NOT a route march but rather follow the pace of the slowest walker, you will soon discover how of Africa you are missing by not walking.
A stay at Grassland Bushman Lodge is truly one-of-a-kind. It’s so much more than just your typical safari experience. The balance of activities transports guests straight into the Kalahari Desert. Adding this lodge to any Botswana itinerary will instantly elevate your travels to new levels. It’s highly recommended for those with a series interest in San culture.

Five Tips for a Perfect Honeymoon - ABC News
Okavango Delta Private Game Reserves
Botswana’s Okavango Delta Private Game Reserves are world-class. The Okavango River’s headwaters begin in the highlands of Angola and proceed to flow southeast, crossing the Caprivi Strip in Namibia’s panhandle, before entering Botswana’s Kalahari where it fans out into the world’s largest inland delta. Commonly known as the Okavango River delta, it is more popularly referred to as the ‘Okavango Delta,’ and is one of Africa’s most sought after safari destinations.
Spreading over 15,000 km², the Okavango Delta’s environment consists of lush water-wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed-beds and floodplains, glittered with islands weaved with a network of channels. This vast virtually uninhabited land makes for an extraordinary big game safari.
Imagine your perfect African safari. Now imagine an Okavango Delta private game reserves safari – gliding silently across the waters in a mokoro, traditional dugout canoe, watching wildlife unfold before your eyes at eye level. With the aid of your guide catch sight of the more difficult to spot, other times wildlife will be much easier to see, like the red lechwe wading in the river’s shallows, or elephant herds marauding the islands amongst flowers and singing birds.
The Top Reasons Why You Should Safari in the Okavango Delta’s Private Game Reserves?
The private game reserves, or ‘concessions,’ protect the delta’s incredible environment in and around Moremi Game Reserve. The majority of these private game reserves contain a couple of small, private safari camps. Guests travel by air and are offered spectacular safari activities. When comparing these private game reserves versus that of public game parks, the Delta’s private game reserves have several advantages.
- The guides are allowed to drive off-road, thus following wildlife in their tracks to enhance optimal game viewing.
- The guides are allowed to conduct night game drives, again enhancing your chances for sighting the great nocturnal wildlife that would otherwise be left unchecked on your list –this includes leopard which are more generally seen after dusk.
- A handful of private game reserves offer walking safaris, which are not allowed in public national parks.
- These private game reserves are undisclosed, which means absolute exclusivity – rarely seeing other people on safari, and real luxury lodging in nature’s best pristine wilderness.

What Wildlife Will You See in the Okavango Delta Private Game Reserves?
It is possible to see all Africa’s Big Five here in the Delta’s private game reserves thanks to the reintroduction of rhino. Elephant and buffalo congregate in large numbers year round. Common animals, nearly all visitors see include blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, impala, kudu, tsessebe, red lechwe, waterbuck, reedbuck, giraffe, common duiker, bushbuck, steenbok, warthog, baboon, and vervet monkey. Although less common, the eland, sable, and roan antelope can also be seen in the Delta.
And with high population of antelope, predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, and spotted hyena, thrive in the area. The African wild dog finds home throughout most of Northern Botswana and is easiest to find on the northern and eastern sides of the Delta.
Black-backed and side-striped jackal, bat-eared fox (though not common in the drier areas of Botswana), a wide variety of mongoose –slender, banded, dwarf, large grey, and water. Serval, aardwolf, caracal, and aardvark are also found throughout the Delta. Pangolins can also be seen in the area.
In 2001, the first white rhino were introduced into the Mombo Private Game Reserve. From having been exterminated from the area due to poaching, the population is not on the up and is well on its way to becoming a story of success to model after.
The Birdlife is Prolific in the Delta
The Okavango Delta is home to over 400 species of bird – distributed throughout the Delta according to habitats. Nonetheless, no matter where in the Delta you ultimately choose to safari, the sheer number of birds is sure to amaze you. Private Game Reserves are ideal for a well balanced wildlife experience.
