Jeremy,

I am in Detroit airport right now so almost there (home).  Three flights down, one to go!

First of all, I think your firm did a great job.  Our interactions were timely, professional, and well thought out.  I think it is a smart move to send all of the emails once someone requests info on the web site (I’m talking about the newsletter).  Shows you are organized, informed, and keeps things fresh in potential clients minds.

Allison was awesome.  She did such a great job with my briefing spending a lot of time with me.

I really liked the itinerary you mapped out for me.  You were right on with the Souss Dunes Lodge and the opportunity it gives you.  Liked the Stiltz in Swakop OK, but with other great places, didn’t stand out as much.  Grootberg was great.  Was sorry to only spent one day there.  They went so above and beyond!

For Etosha, Dolomite was incredible.  Really nice and higher end.  I did think the wildlife would be off the charts in the West part of the park since it gets less traffic.  In the end, I think the other parts have just as much if not more activity though.  However, the other two lodges weren’t as great though adequate.  Finally Erindi was a nice experience.  Got to see my wild dogs and I think that in 3-4 years with the addition of lots more elephants and some brush clearing by those guys, it will be world class.

Loved Namibia, loved the itinerary, loved all the help you and Allison gave.  Don’t change a thing and will try to direct more business your way.

Cheers,

Craig Derby

When we decided that we wanted to explore South Africa, we wanted some guidance from someone that has been there.   We met with a local travel agent in AZ (Arizona) and she had no clue.   When (I) heard from you, it was nice to work with a person who is knowledgeable about the country.   Plus, you did an excellent job communicating with us and accommodating us with making sure that our vision of the trip materialize.   It was awesome to give you our wants and have you figure out the details.  As well as we liked that you provided us with few choices.

We were glad that we were able to get help, when one of the lodges was in middle of nowhere and we wanted a town that was more active.   Thank you for your help with this item.

We had a great time overall.  In the process of downloading our pictures.  Will pick some good ones and share them with you!

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks! We had an amazing time!  I think I enjoyed the safari (at Kruger National Park) the most, we saw the Big 5 among many other animals, it was great fun.

I liked that you basically let us create our own itinerary while also giving good suggestions.  I like your prompt responses to our questions and concerns. I mostly like that you were familiar with the area we were traveling to and were able to give information that was useful.

Most importantly, this was a wonderful, exciting, awesome, amazing experience!  I really liked that everything was set up when we arrived so we didn’t have to worry about the logistics.

Thank you for all your help and assistance in making this an unforgettable experience.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the email and hope you returned to the States safely. Thanks for organising such a successful tour of Namibia, I know that the entire group had a fantastic time and have been raving about it ever since!! Such a beautiful country and we certainly visited some memorable places. Nice video you’ve compiled – really does sum up the whole trip. I would not have changed anything about the trip…

Thanks once again and I wish you all the best for 2012′s marathon!

Best regards,

Thanks Jeremy for your continuing assistance with planning this trip.  You are certainly a “unique” resource that I have rarely become associated with in planning my other trips to over 60 countries world-wide.

I look forward to working with you and achieving my goal of a camping/budget/efficient trip to Namibia interacting with as many Indigenous Tribes as feasible.

Sincerely,

Brad Carss

Jeremy,

I must tell you that we are fortunate to be able to travel quite often, but I think this is the best trip we have ever taken.  It was amazing from start to finish.  Each country actually felt like an entirely different vacation.

Thank you for planning such an amazing trip for us.  It was so great to have your expert knowledge in getting Namibia all planned out.  And what a country – I think my all time favorite African country thus far.  It is so easy to get around – and the people are spectacular.  It is far more developed than I had realized.  We were in Madagascar last summer and that was a pretty rough trip – this was such a pleasure!!

As you told me – the driving is very easy – and very few people on the roads.

The van was rented from Avis – and when we arrived the car was not ready as the one they had was not in good shape so they had to get another one – which was a three hour delay – but after we got going – all was fine.  We did end up getting a flat tire when we arrived back to Windhoek but noticed it just a block from a gas station so it was very easy to get fixed.

Etosha Park was wonderful – saw lots of wildlife (no lions) and it was fun to drive around.  Toshari lodge was nice – we did find that you needed to be the first in the dinner line as they did run out of some food (especially chicken which the kids favored).

Then on to Damaraland – what a place – like no other place on earth.  The hike up to see the Brandberg White Lady was beautiful.  The lodge is in the middle of nowhere – and it was in the most gorgeous setting – truly breathtaking.  Food was fabulous.

Swakupmond was great fun.  Loved the sand boarding and quad biking.  We laughed the whole time.  The tour of Mondessa township was a huge hi lite of the trip – met some wonderful people.  Alternative space was very nice – lovely people that run it – very neat house.  Went to Cape Cross seal colony and really enjoyed it – wow – what a ton of seals.

Sossusulvllie was again very pretty and unique.  Had no idea what a vlei was until we arrived – had to look it up.  The lady that runs Agama River Camp is fabulous and a great cook.  We thought the location was fine – a little further of a drive to the dunes but then closer to Windhoek when it was time to leave.  For some reason – the booking came through late so they only had two rooms available for us – but she immediatley refunded the one room in cash.

And alas back to Windhoek and Guest House Terra Africa which was very pleasant.

Loved loved loved Namibia – thank you for all your great tips and recommendations – was easy to find all the grocery stores, and the operators that you recommended were all top notch.  You really know the country and it showed as we traveled through it.

Next on to Botswana – we fell in love with Mapula and our guide and tracker – Dix and Simon.  It is so remote that you truly feel that you are in the middle of nowhere.  Accommodations were beautiful and we loved the outdoor shower with great hot water!!  Food was very good – but not enough for the guys.  You really have to hunt for the game – but that is what makes it so fun.  We saw 11 lions, and did see a hunt on the last night – but they missed!!   It is a very peaceful place.  My son wants to go back and live there he loved it so much.

The new lodge – Ngoma – is spectacular.  WOW!!  If you could have that lodge in Mapula you would have paradise!  The food was fantastic – gourmet!!  We did however, feel that the guide was weak,  We love to get up early and go hard – and it was quite lax there.  I think more for older people who enjoy relaxing.  Chobe park though is unbelievable.  Wow.  So many animals and so many elephants – the river cruise was the best part.

It was a tough transition as we loved Mapula – the remoteness of the place and the guides – and just did not connect with the guide at Ngoma.  I think we have figured out that we prefer the ability to go off road and to be in a place that does not adhere to a schedule.  I must admit though, that it was nice to come back and have a beautiful bath and be surrounded by luxury.  I think when I am 70, I will quite enjoy that type of place.

Very pleasantly surprised by Victoria Falls.  Fun place.  The Falls were fabulous – we have been to Iguazu falls in Argentina so I was not sure how these would compare – but they were equally as great.

Ilala was very comfortable.  The elephant ride was fun, and walking with the lions was neat – but crazy.  The kids did the gorge swing and the flying fox.  It was a lot of fun.

All in all – truly a wonderful trip.  I can’t thank you enough for everything!!!

I will definitely pass your name on to anyone I hear that is planning a trip to Namibia.  You are a true expert.

THANK YOU!!!..

Dear Jeremy,

We just came back from our journey and would like to share some comments with you.

First thing is regarding the services in Namibia. Everything was fine with Leonard since the moment we met him in Tsumeb until the end of the tour. We even had a breakdown with the car but he managed to solve everything without causing any delay in our program (althought it was not that easy).
We had a great time in Chobe, saw many many elephants. Victoria Falls was also very nice. Thank you for planning such a great guided tour to Namibia and Botswana.

Hi Jeremy:

We had a good time.  The B&B (Hotel Moni) was a great place to stay and good breakfasts. Erindi was a nice place with good food.   We also went to Okapuka and Amoni… both were great.  Town was nice.  Convention was very nice.  Happy Beat show was fantastic.  We had just enough time.   More days would have been too many. Lots of good pictures and memories.

Thanks,

Hey Jeremy,

Namibia was outstanding!  And the Safari was perfect!  Toshari Lodge is quite spectacular; the food was excellent and the accommodations were comfortable and clean. I was especially pleased that we did the self-drive safari.  It gave Alan and I the flexibility to do what we wanted, when we wanted to do it.  We were up early and spent two full days in Etosha at our own pace.

All of your advance work in arranging for the rental car and lodging, the pre-departure package, and the music CD removed much of the stress of having to handle these details myself.

It was a great adventure!

Jeremy, we really had an amazing trip! Thank you so much, you never led us astray. Coming from the states, bookings and information discovery was very cumbersome and difficult. I pride myself in being very resourceful online and initially thought I could handle the trip by myself…it didn’t take long before I was seeking out some help.

My wife and I (28) and her parents (60) made the voyage together, needless to say our preferences were covering quite the spectrum. Jeremy handled our every concern and helped lay out options suited to our every need. This wound up being invaluable as all of our time was spent enjoying our trip, rather than worrying about some mundane details once we got there. In addition to helping with our bookings, Jeremy took our goals for the trip and gave us the best possible destinations that left us all so pleased. The car service we used was great (we even took a rock the size of a golf ball the windshield and had to replace it at the end of the trip…and we are still pleased with the price and service!)

I can’t thank you enough for your attentiveness and helpfulness throughout the past weeks.  Your service has added a great deal of comfort and joy to the planning process.  Knowing we have someone “on our side” so to speak, takes almost all the nerves out of sinking so much money into a trip half way across the globe.

“In May of 2008 I went on a Wild Safari African tour of the entire Namibian country with Jeremy.  Before I went and left for the African continent I was very afraid and nervous about issues including safety, health, and logistics of a tour in a foreign country who did not speak my language… And when I went on this tour with Jeremy it was safe, affordable, and most importantly everything was taken care of for me!  So I just got to sit back, relax, enjoy the sites and take tons of pictures! I had the time of my life and made memories that will last an entire lifetime.   I came home with a camera full of pictures and experiences I will hold on to forever.  If you are looking for a safe and affordable and fun experience in Africa Jeremiah Allen is the best man for the job!”

“Jeremy,

It wasn’t until I met up with you that I started to experience the real Africa.  Africa, as I found out, has so much more to offer than the standard safaris that most people go on.  Traveling with Wild Safari Africa I experienced not only the safari side of Africa but also the people side of Africa, and that turned out to be way more exciting and adventurous than I ever could have imagined.

Your knowledge and understanding of the people and clans of southern Africa is absolutely amazing.  One of the greatest parts about Wild Safari Africa is that they are able to tailor a trip to my needs.  I told them exactly what I wanted and they planned out a trip that showed me wildlife, people, and some of the most amazing landscapes I’ve ever seen, and my photography benefited tremendously!

I have been to over 35 countries, but I can honestly say that this trip with Jeremy and Wild Safari Africa was the most exciting and unique trip I have ever been on.”

We just returned from a trip to Namibia.  We used your book as one of our guides on the trip.  Yours is perhaps the only tour book that covers the North of the country.  The reason we were traveling in the North is that our daughter is a Peace Corps volunteer there.

This was our first trip to Namibia, which apparently puts us ahead of about 99.9% of Americans.  At some lodges we were perhaps the third or fourth Americans to visit this year.  One sign of the small number of Americans that go to Namibia is the fact that the opening line for street hustlers and beggars is “Are you from Germany?”  It took me a while to catch on to that, although I still wonder why they would ask such a question in English.

We were more than impressed with the wild life and the scenery.  I wish there were some way you could convey the impression of the landscape in words.  We drove from praries to badlands to mountains to desert to coast in the course of a few hours.  It’s like the American West crammed into a small space without the people.  If there are few people, the abundance of wild life makes up for it.  We navigated untold numbers of goats, cattle, and donkeys while in the North.  Further south on a back road we came across a large animal grazing in the road.  As I muttered something about donkeys the animal lifted its head and looked at us.  It was a kudu.  It then leapt off the road and joined two other kudus on the side. You don’t see scenes like that on the interstate.
Sincerely,

When an area is so remote that even google maps doesn’t seem to know much about it, you know it is just begging for a real insider to reveal the wonders there. Allen is the man for the job. He does a fantastic job of creating a guide book that makes you feel like a local. I enjoyed the history, culture and especially the tips for living like a native Namibian. I look forward to one day visiting this beautiful country and eating at some of the joints Allen recommends. It seems like a guide book might only be for a traveler, but I found Namibia to be a book that gave me so much insight to the people, land and culture it was a worthy read even if I never make it. Well written and very in-depth, this is a great cultural guide for anyone thirsty to learn about other cultures.

As an AP World History teacher, I would recommend this book on both its content and readability. Lord knows that so many historical/culture/travel writers kill their fascinating subjects with each click of the keyboard. Allen, instead, brings Namibia alive to the reader. It was a delight to sink my teeth into the book.

Namibia is on my shelf, will be a gift for any sub-Saharan African traveling friends, and may become a read in my history classes. Well rounded and fun, Namibia is a fantastic book.

This is the perfect guidebook to get off the beaten tourist track for any holiday budget, from backpacking and hitchhiking to luxury game lodges. I especially appreciated how easy it was to spot eco-friendly accommodation and eateries in the guide, along with tips for how to spend your money to best benefit good local causes. Because it was written by a Peace Corps volunteer, this is a travel book with its heart in truly the right place, designed to build mutual understanding and respect between visitors and locals. It not only focuses on well-kept secrets and handy insider tips on things to do and see, it highlights Namibia’s vibrant, diverse culture, along with fantastic ways to responsibly spend your holiday money and feel good about it. This guide truly stands-out as a new breed of travel book. I only wish there were more like it!
